In a feature in the ADELAIDE Sunday Mail recently the song "Jungle Music" by
John Vincent under the alias of Ken Oath was included in the Top 50 South Australian songs of all time at number 47.

Let's Hear it for Ken!

Back in 1967, Adelaide disc-jockey John Vincent would spend Saturday afternoons at the Arkabar Hotel, listening to music of local rock band 'The In-Sect.

Sometimes after a few liquid courage boosters, John would talk his way on stage to perform the only song he knew. It was a song he composed called "Owyagoin'?"

The lyrics were :

bullet"Owyagoin'? - Alright
bulletCrack a coldie - you beaut
bulletSeeyalater - hooroo"

It was eventually decided that a song of such lyrical complexity should be recorded for prosperity. It also transpired that the In-Sect had one song to go, to finish a recording contract. So why not? Thus commenced the John Vincent/Ken Oath musical phenomenon.

Ken Oath came about as a result of some peoples reactions to the songs - phrases such as "blink'n oath" - or words to that effect.

In the early 70's John Vincent visited Canberra in his capacity as a radio announcer to co-host a national music awards presentation. At the airport John was interviewed by the local press who didn't know he was a disc jockey but thought he might be there as an award nominee.

To avoid confusion between the 'Disc-Jockey' and the supposed singer, the name Ken Oath was attached to all future recordings.
